Volunteer

All families are required to work on deck at each of the dual meets AND the championship meet.  The meets are organized and run completely by volunteers.  If your child swims on the team, a parent/guardian must work at the meets.

Referee: The Referee is the final arbiter of all decisions and questions during the meet and has full authority over all officials, assigning and instructing them. The referee must be thoroughly familiar with all rules and meet procedures. The referee must be certified either by USA Swimming or by the league’s online training.

Starter: The Starter has complete control over the swimmers from the time the Referee signals the start of the race until after a fair start has been achieved. The Starter must be certified either by USA Swimming or by the league’s online training.

Stroke & Turn Judges: Stroke and Turn Judges determine whether the swimmers perform their strokes and turns in accordance with the prescribed rules. The Judge must be certified either by USA Swimming or by the league’s online training.

Scorekeeper: The Scorekeeper should be familiar with the use of the Swimmingly Scorekeeping App on the iPad. They will work closely with the Referee, Starter and Timers to ensure that the results are recorded properly. Experience is desired.

Timers: Timers will use the Swimmingly app on their phones to record the results of the dual meets. The championship meet will use stopwatches, “pickles” and paper time sheets to record results in order to use the touch pad technology.

Head Timer: The Head Timer starts two watches at the beginning of each race. If a timer’s device fails to start, the head timer hands off one of their watches to that timer to get a time on the race.

Runners: Runners are historically responsible for running time sheets to the scorekeeper and results to post. With the use of Swimmingly, runners may be used to run between officials, timers, or coaches and the scorekeeper. They may also be used to hand out heat winner ribbons, if desired.

Clerk of Course: The Clerk of Course is responsible for lining up the swimmers in their heats and lanes and ensuring that they are properly lined up behind the blocks for their events. This is particularly important for the younger swimmers.
Place Judge: The Place Judge records the order of finish for each heat in the meet. No experience required.
